What’s New!

Results from the Spinning contest!

The record to break for next year is 58 yards out of 2 grams of merino and silk on a spinning wheel! Shirley scooped up prizes in each of the categories for spinning the most mileage using a spinning wheel and a drop spindle. Everyone who participated was also a winner, and received a bag of exotic fibres! We had great feedback about the spinning contest and plan to continue with more fun spinning events.

Introducing the Rose

If you have not already meet "the Rose" we are pleased to introduce her as a new floor model! Beautifully handcrafted from New Zealand. You are welcome to come in and take a spin on her. As well, with any of our equipment, they are free for in-store use. A great oppurtunity to bust your stash, come in and weave on our Saori loom. The reverse applique piece below is woven with sock yarn on the Saori.

New Local Wool

Fresh from Saltspring! It is always a happy site to see John walking in the shop with bags full of Saltspring Island wool! Our personal favourite is the softspun, but they also do a great job with their alpaca wool blends as well. Their softspun is a great excuse to knit with locally hand crafted giant needles by Seth Taylor!

Direct from India

Spin like Ghandi; he advocated that eveyone should spin for at least for 15 minutes, not only for meditative purposes but also for independence from Britain. The charka, translates to wheel, is a fantastic tool for spinning cotton and other short fibres. They are available in a small "book" size and a larger "attache" size. In additon to the charka's we also recieved some cotton poonies, and beautiful sari silk in both spun and loose fibre form.
