Introduction to Natural Dyeing and Wildcrafting Dyes

                 

In this three hour class you will learn the basics of natural dyeing. We will go over how to prepare your fibres, mordanting, and the process of dyeing. 

We will be working with materials ethically sourced from around the world as well as wildcrafted natural dyes. You will learn how to identify and harvest natural dyes from within your landbase. 

You will go home with samples from our dyepots, notes on what we learned, and the knowledge to start your natural dye journey at home!

Instructor

Caitlin ffrench is a textile artist living in East Vancouver. She started into the world of natural dyes when she attended the Kootenay School of the Arts in Nelson in 2004/05. She tries to spend most of her time in the forest or forgotten roadways to forage for plants.

Botanical Inks and Watercolours 

In this class you will learn how to identify earth pigments, the basics of lake pigment production, and how to mull your of paint.  You will go away with 4 watercolour half pans.
